Conservative filmmaker and author Dinesh D'Souza has been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly arranging excessive campaign contributions to an "unnamed" 2012 candidate for the U.S.
Senate.
Recent allegations of retribution style politics in New Jersey as well as IRS scandals in 2013, in which conservative groups were unfairly targeted and persecuted by high ranking officials within that agency, have some wondering if perhaps the case against D'Souza isn't also a form of political retaliation by the Obama administration over D'Souza's recent documentary "2016: Obama's America" as well as his book "Obama's America: Unmaking the American Dream."
D'Souza was charged in the indictment with one count of making illegal contributions in the names of others, and one count of causing false statements to be made. The case is U.S. v. D'Souza, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, No. 14-cr-00034.
The 52 year old native of Mumbai is a former policy adviser to President Ronald Reagan and has been affiliated with conservative organizations such as the Hoover Institution at Stanford University and the American Enterprise Institute.
D'Souza discussed the allegations with Sean Hannity and told him that he feels his work has "gotten under President Obama's skin. I, in a sense, went into Obama's world and also into Obama's mind," said D'Souza."We know the film rattled him. We know the film upset
him," D'Souza said, "Whether this is a kind of payback remains to be
seen."
